Urangan is Hervey Bay’s largest and most established suburb, stretching along the foreshore from the marina precinct to the Urangan Pier. The suburb includes a high proportion of older Queensland-style homes built in the 1970s and 1980s alongside significant newer residential development, particularly in the marina and harbour areas where modern townhouses and apartments have been built to take advantage of waterfront positioning.
The combination of direct water frontage and the suburb’s exposure to Hervey Bay’s prevailing south-easterly winds makes Urangan one of the more demanding environments for window furnishings on the Fraser Coast. Properties within 500 metres of the waterfront — particularly in the harbour and pier areas — experience salt-laden air that accelerates corrosion on untreated hardware and degrades standard roller blind mechanisms within a few years.
For Urangan homes, we specifically recommend powder-coated or marine-grade hardware on all products, UV-rated sunscreen fabrics on easterly and northerly aspects, and Crimsafe or Alu-Gard security screens rather than standard aluminium fly screens for the ground-floor openings of properties close to the foreshore.
